Statewide Viva Florida 500 Time Capsule
As we end 2013 and the 500 year anniversary, the Florida Department of State is requesting an item from each of the 67 counties for this statewide time capsule, which will contain items reflecting the theme Life in Florida, 2013.
The deadline to submit either a physical item or digital information is Friday, December 6, 2013. All items and information submitted will be reviewed and considered for inclusion in the time capsule.
The statewide time capsule will be sealed in Tallahassee at the R.A. Gray Building on December 31, 2013. We will send out more information about the sealing ceremony at a later date. The time capsule will be on display at the R.A. Gray Building until March 3, 2095. It will be opened on that day as a part of the celebrations for the 250th anniversary of Florida statehood.
Inclusion in the time capsule will uniquely represent your county to Floridians in the future.
Viva Florida 500 Time Capsule
The Florida Department of State's Division of Library and Information Services has launched a project in honor of Florida's 500 year anniversary- the 2013 Viva Florida 500 commemoration. Viva Florida 500 is a once-in-our-lifetime opportunity to reposition and expand the perception of Florida by highlighting 500 years of history and unmatched cultural diversity – a claim no other state can make.
To encourage activities in every community in each of Florida's 67 counties, the Department has provided a Viva Florida 500 Time Capsule to every county library in the state. County Commissioners are also being contacted and asked to work with their communities on the project.
